What are wireless fish finders?

A wireless fish finder is a portable fish finding unit.  Most fish finding units have a wired sensor.

The sensor usually has a float which is thrown onto the surface of the water.  This sensor emits a sonar pulse and detects how fast the sonar wave returns.  From this data the fish finder calculates the water depth and the location of any fish that passed into the sonar wave.

Having a wired fish finder is handy if you are in a boat and are able to have the handset near the water.  However if you want to be further away from the sensor then you will need a wireless fish finder.
Wireless fish finders usually have a good range, meaning that you can use them even from shore.  You can’t just throw them out to float away though as you will have to get the sensor back to use it again.  The most practical way to use a wireless fish finder is to attach the fish finder to a bait boat.  You can then control this boat from shore and hunt out the big fish.
